Sheffield's luxury leisure destination, Leopold Square, is home to a variety of top quality bars and restaurants with exotic themes from around the world. Here, Leopold's team of expert mixologists predict the drink trends for 2018.
The UK has officially been declared the country that loves prosecco the most. Not only is it tasty and affordable, it's the perfect sophisticated drink all year around. From birthday and anniversary celebrations to an evening pick-me-up, prosecco is set to be an ongoing favourite cork to pop throughout 2018.
Expect to see the use of glittering bubble balls, fruit liqueurs as well as fragrant herbs to 'pimp' up the traditional prosecco next year. The Botanist situated within Leopold Square, known for its botanical cocktails and craft beers and ales, is already home to many quirky fizz tipples including an elderflower and strawberry fizz.
Caribbean-style drinks made with rum, coconut and pineapple flavours will take top billing on cocktail menus in 2018 predicts Bamboo Door, Leopold Square's resident Polynesian tiki cocktail bar. With a huge demand for coconut-based cocktails on order throughout 2017, Sheffield's first and only tiki bar predicts the rise in Caribbean mixes including the use of lime and coconut for a sweet or zesty experience.
Rum has long been hailed as the next spirit to rise as fast as gin did, which is why Leopold Square's tapas bar, Cubana, is home to over 167 varieties of rum. The rise of the rum cocktail is something to look out for in 2018, the popularity of concoctions such as Mojito and Mai tai have been contributing greatly to the growth of rum throughout 2017 and are expected to do so again next year.
The gin market has seen huge growth in recent years. Expect to see even more flavoured gins, as well as a more diverse range of mixers such as ginger ale and tonics flavoured with the likes of elderflower and rhubarb throughout 2018.
Whatever your tipple of choice Leopold Square with its variety of up-market bars and restaurants looks forward to welcoming everyone, from lunch-time diners to the sociable after-work crowd and the night-time fun seekers in 2018.
