With the pandemic having put a stop to our full summer of live music programme for the past two years, we are delighted to be bringing it back between May and September this year.
An eclectic line-up of talented musicians playing soulful vibes, smooth jazz, swinging classics, and much more, will be performing between 2pm and 4.30pm every Saturday and Sunday. But, this year we're also adding Friday evenings in July and August when live music will ease guests into the weekend between 5pm and 7pm.
A special Big Swing Event will be kicking off the summer programme on Sunday 1st May. There will be a DJ and swing dance class from 1pm, before the Ryan Taylor Organ Trio bring their rip-roaring and riotous jazz, swing and Latin grooves to get the live music going at 2pm. Another dance class takes place at 2.45pm and the band comes back for a final set at 3.15pm.
The Big Swing Event ends at 4pm, but the live entertainment doesn't end there, as Cubana's ever-popular Salsa in the Square takes over from 5pm.
The following weekend, one of Sheffield's longest running groove bands Montuno will be bringing their groove-driven Latin, funk and Nuyorican soul on Saturday 7th May. Jenny Smith is one of the slickest and most polished vocal performers in the North and will be entertaining visitors on Sunday 8th May.
On Saturday 14th May, Sticky Pockets will be making their debut at Leopold Square. The 5-piece band bring Southern blues, Northern soul and a bit of everything in-between. Visitors will then be able to get their dancing shoes on when the ever-popular What Katie Did Next are welcomed on Sunday 15th May.
Dizzy Club will be getting visitors dancing on the terraces on Saturday 21st May, before The Washboard Resonators bring fresh energy to the sounds of the 1920s on Sunday 22nd May.
The final weekend in May sees the Nicola Farnon Quartet performing on Saturday 28th May, and Emily Claire West is bringing her effervescent energy and beautiful soulful voice on Sunday 29th.
Miriam Duffy from Leopold Square commented:
"Whilst we were able to have a shortened programme of live music last year, there hasn't been a full schedule since 2019, so we are thrilled to be bringing it back. Visitors will be able to enjoy performances from some of the most talented musicians around - lovers of jazz, soul, Motown, funk and swing music are definitely in for a treat. We look forward to welcoming people along."
Keep up to date with all the live music performances on our events page.
