Free live music continues in July when some of the finest jazz, swing, folk and blues acts will be entertaining visitors every weekend.
Saturday 6th July – Emily West
With both an effervescent energy and a beautiful soulful voice, Emily has been wowing audiences at Leopold Square for years. Turning her hand to jazz, soul, and funk classics with a cracking band behind her, Emily never fails to impress.
Sunday 7th July – Ryan Taylor
Sheffield jazz/soul/funkateer Ryan is a familiar face at Leopold Square. He brings solid grooves, smooth vocals and funky improvisation to a range of songs, including some popular classics and fresh original tunes.
Saturday 13th July - Jeremy Sassoon
Jeremy is a well-established name on the UK jazz scene and is a regular at Ronnie Scott's in London, where he also performed for the 2012 London Olympics event with his Ray Charles big band.
Sunday 14th July – Jenny Smith
With effortless vocals and a top-notch Leeds-based band, Jenny caresses jazz and soul beautifully, and has a special gift for performing the difficult Bossa/Latin songbook in its native Portuguese tongue.
Friday 19th to Sunday 21st July – Tramlines Festival at Leopold Square
Leopold Square will once again be one of the official Fringe venues for the annual Tramlines music festival and will welcome the Straight 8s to the stage on Friday night. The Pop Heroes of Tokyo, Dizzy Club, Papa Soul and The Leopold Square Funk and Soul Show will feature on Saturday. Then on Sunday visitors will be able to enjoy Nicola Farnon's Made Up Band, Julian Jones, Acoustic Angels and King Zepha.
Saturday 27th July – Phil Johnson
One of the UK's most in-demand session drummers steps into the limelight to showcase his vocal and keyboard skills. With a band of Sheffield's finest, Phil always entertains with a mix of jazz standards, gutsy blues, and pop classics.
Saturday 27th July – Sheffield Pride Event (16:30-22:00)
Join DJ Ryan Taylor and some very special guests for an evening of funk, soul, disco, R&B and classic house music in celebration of Pride in Sheffield 2019.
Sunday 28th July - Montuno
Sheffield's long running groove outfit return to show you a funky good time! Formed by the gentleman funkateer and sax lord Kent Roach, and featuring a full 8-piece band of Yorkshire musicians, this is a party in the making.
All live music takes place in Leopold Square between 2pm and 4.30pm, except acts performing as part of the Tramlines festivals and Sheffield Pride. Timings and further details about these events will be released shortly.
